Times Up!

Well who would have though that the hardest time to to find time to write in your blog about bird hunting is during bird season.... Well Today was the last bird hunt of the season for me and the R dog. We went on a quail hunt with my great friend Troy Evans and his dog Aldo. minus it being really warm we had a great day! quite a few flushes and a whole lot of missing but by the end of the day we had a quail and a rabbit to throw in the pan. Now let me try to catch you up on the events that came and past while i have been hunting and being lazy. Woodcock season came and went and it was amazing. Rowdy had over 100 flushes for the season. needless to say I didn't shoot that many... but I did limit out more then one day. Snipe season was slow this year. We didn't even push any up. Grouse hunting was at a stand still it seemed. I saw only one and it was standing on the side of the highway. Deer season was really good to me as I harvested two this year to fill the freezer. Now to the important part. Duck season! Duck season wasn't the best but it was mainly because i didn't go out as much as I would have liked to. and when I did go this year I spent a lot of the trips taking people out that had never duck hunted before so quite a few birds where passed on by myself so that others could have a chance. On those trips I had a friend who just started hunting this year take a nice Wood Duck and then one of my best friends from many years back take his first duck, a beautiful Black Duck, on a day that topped out at 7 degrees. It might have been cold and the ice was thick but that is so far my Favorite duck hunting memory for the year and one of my top ones of all times. Don't let me act like I didn't get my fair share of birds though. Quite a few ducks and some geese came home to my freezer and all I can say is that it wouldn't be possible with out Rowdy. He really amazed me this year, from hunting down downed birds that we thought we lost, flushing up barrels of quail and woodcock, and chasing down swimming ducks in fast currents! all in all it was an amazing hunting season.... next on the list.... Fishing season, most notably another trip to the SC coast with Katy and Justan in late April! should be fun..... also I promise to be a little better at updates!
